Isaiah 7:14 describes Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

Christians use this verse to support their belief of Jesus being God and Mary being a virgin when Jesus was born.

When we look at this verse closely and in some detail, we find something else.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14

Note: Immanuel is translated as God is with us. If this makes someone God, then Ishmael means "God hears"!

At first sight, it does appear that this verse prophecies about Mary, mother of Jesus, and since it does so, Immanuel (God is with us) may appear to be Jesus.

This is not correct!

This is a good translation trick used by the Christians.

Here is how the Jews translate this verse;

Therefore the L-rd Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the young woman is with child, and she shall bear a son, and you [or, she] shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14

Nowhere is the young woman called a virgin.

Besides, Jesus was never called Immanuel by anyone, anywhere in the entire Bible. Also, Jesus of the Bible shouts out loud on the cross, “ My God! My God why have you forsaken me?”

God was not with that man in need.

Prophet Muhammad’s father died two months before he was born and his mother took care of him.

The young woman being described here is the mother of Prophet Muhammad (s). The verse says that either she or the people will call him Immanuel. The name of our beloved Prophet was named by his grandfather. We don’t know whether his mother named him something else.

A question then arises, who is Immanuel?

Let’s take a look at this verse from the Qur’an;

If you fail to support him (the messenger), GOD has already supported him. Thus, when the disbelievers chased him, and he was one of two in the cave, he said to his friend, "Do not worry; GOD is with us." GOD then sent down contentment and security upon him, and supported him with invisible soldiers. He made the word of the disbelievers lowly. GOD's word reigns supreme. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

(Qur’an 9:40)

We do find these words “God is with us” in the Quran but nowhere in the Bible.

Below are posted a few more of the translation by the Jews:

Art Scroll Tanach
(Stone Edition; AST)

Therefore, my Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the maiden will become pregnant and bear a son, and she will name him Immanuel.

The Jerusalem Bible
(Koren Publishing; JBK)

Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman is with child, and she will bear a son, and shall call his name ‘Immanu-el’.

Let’s look at some other Christian translations;

Revised Standard Version (American; RSV)

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Imman'u-el.

New Jerusalem Bible (Catholic; NJB)

The Lord will give you a sign in any case: It is this: the young woman is with child and will give birth to a son whom she will call Immanuel

New English Bible (NEB)

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: A young woman is with child, and she will bear a son, and will call him Immanuel.

New English Translation Bible (NET)

For this reason the sovereign master himself will give you a confirming sign. Look, this young woman is about to conceive and will give birth to a son. You, will name him Immanuel.

Hebrew and Arabic, both do not contain certain words. For example, lets take a look at a verse from the Qur’an;

Qul Hu Allah Hu Ahad
Say He Allah is Unique

Certain words have to be added to make it a correct English sentence.

Therefore,
The most authentic translation

Therefore the L-rd Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the young woman is with child, and she shall bear a son, and you [the son] shall proclaim “G-d is with us”.

Isaiah 7:14

CONCLUSION: Some translations say that the boy will be called Immanuel by his mother and some say that he will be called Immanuel by the people and another one says that the boy will proclaim Immanuel.

Only the latter one explains the truth, the rest do not make any sense as such an incident or sign never happened.
